Lyra arrived at White's house at six sharp, lugging with her a dress, some cosmetics and her overnight bag. White answered the door, smiling brightly.
"Come on in! I'm making popcorn." she said as she trotted over to the microwave.
"Lyra!" Bel cheered as she walked in. Her face was covered in a sticky green mask. She smiled and it cracked slightly at the corners of her mouth. "It's, like, the night before homecoming! Aren't you excited?"
"Yeah!" Lyra chuckled, "I got the prettiest dress."
"We're going to try on ours after this movie," White smiled as she returned with a bowl of popcorn. "You can, too, if you'd like to. I'd love to see you

"It's complicated,"
The words felt wrong in her mouth, as if she were saying cuss words. She half expected for the other person to cover their ears and ask her not to speak that way in public. Her tongue felt oversized and out of place as she tried to explain their relationship, failing to even understand what she was saying. She knew that she wasn't lying, however, seeing as it had almost always been complicated between her and Tucker.
